What else should I feed my pregnant chihuahua besides puppy food?
Michelle R asked:
Can I give her milk and if so how often. Should I get vitamins from the vet for her. At this point if she is pregnant she just got pregnant last night. I want the baby puppies to come out healthy and for all of them to survive the birth.

well dont jump to conclusions, take her to a vet and if she is pregnant then yes you should ask your vet for vitamins availible to pregnant dogs, they are like prenatal pills to humans, and also milk is a good choice but only once every other day or so because too much milk will cause a shock to your dogs body and could cause illness instead of healthiness, so milk only in moderation and vitamins if your dog is pregnant…

Talk to your vet about canine pre-natal supplements. Your vet is the best source for advice about your preggers pup!

If your Chihuahua is pregnant she should be on adult food. Dogs are lactose intolerant, so no, she doesn’t get milk..
You do not sound like a very responsible pet parent. If she’s still on puppy food, then this is her first heat cycle and that’s too young for a dog to get pregnant. If you were truly concerned about her health and welfare, you would have considered the possibility of her getting pregnant and done some research, or at least consulted a vet.
Why not consult the vet NOW????? Chihuahuas have a hard time delivering since they are so small, and you will need vet assistance with this.
If she’s not pregnant, do her a favor and spay her. There are too many animals in shelters and rescues for you to be adding more puppies to the world, and she doesn’t need the health risk you’re imposing on her.

Calcium rich foods like yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese. Peanut butter. Scrambled eggs. Not all at once, just add some of these things in her daily diet. Get some nutrical from the vet or pet store and give her just a dab every day. Feed her puppy food, not adult food. Good luck with the litter! In about 62 days you should have puppies.

Bring to a vet. They can advise you on what sort of diet your chihuahua should be on now that she’s pregnant.

Boil lean hamburger and rice in water to pull the oil out and rinse it than mix it with white rice and veggies. Also cottage cheese is good .I have a strict diet with my dog he is 14 and cant tolerate dog food anymore .Sometimes chicken is good but it depends on the dog because some dogs get diara with chicken.Sometimes I also use yogurt only yoplai .Baby strain chicken lamb or veal is good as long as its baby strain.I sometimes give my dog potatoes but never give them the skin.I hpe this helps. If your dog will eat dog food that would be good to ,but if you want to do both thats even better.Watch out for eggs they can cause gas .Its a great idea but it all depends on your dog

She may be feeding puppy food not because her dog is a puppy but because it’s formulated for growth and has a higher calorific content than adult food, it’s what is recommended during pregnancy and whelping.
What chihuahua lady said is correct, you can also give her an egg yolk once a week, it’s a good source of aminos and omega which are good for the immune system and skin and coat health.
