How many extra calories should you eat when you are pregnant with twins?
DeeAnne asked:
Ok, so I have heard you should eat 300 extra calories per day when you are pregnant. Does this mean you should eat 600 calories per day when you are pregnant with twins? 900 with triplets? Just wondering…..I am 36 weeks pregnant with one baby but I don’t really eat any more than I did before I was pregnant.

Yes, double it from what you’d eat with a single gestation.

The 300 calorie rule only is really needed during the third trimester, which you are in. The answer, like for many questions, is not necessarily. Certain nutrients like calcium should be increased for sure since you have two kids growing bones. You should be far along enough where you see your doctor frequently, ask them.

I don’t count calories so I don’t even know if I’m getting the extra 300, (lol, I’m pretty sure I am.) Listen to your body. If you’re hungry, eat and make it healthy. Eat the whole bag of baby carrots if you can keep them down. Women have been having babies long before anyone came up with the magic calorie number. If you were just curious, sorry I don’t know. Good luck with your babies! My friend has had 3 sets and I’m the godmother of the last set. They are so much fun!
