How to go threw pregnancy without gaining tons of weight?
Christy R asked:
I’m going threw my second pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I gained so much weight. Way over the reconmended weight that women should gain during pregnancy. Eventhough, the weight came off pretty fast after the birth. I have heard that it is harder to lose the weight the second time around. I want to try and maintain a healthy pregnancy weight. Any suggestions to help?

Eat as healthy as you can, and walk daily. That’s really all you can do.
Most pregnant women only need 300 extra calories a day! So you really do not need to eat much more than you did before pregnancy.

I gainned 65 lbs on my first pregnancy…
now I am 7 weeks pregnant and i am trying to do the same thing.
I made an appointment with an nutrionist and she gave me a meal plan - I am trying to follow it strictly and I actually lost weight since I dont feel well in the evenings.
So you might want to invest on a nutrionist as well - ask your doctor to recomend one.

I am going through the same thing. I gained 80lbs the first time! My doctor told me to stick to lean meats like chicken, and some types of fish. Try to get your servings of fruits and veggies everyday. Also, they told me to obstain from sugary breakfast cereal. I eat bran squares with no sugar, with a cup of fat free milk every morning. Its also a good idea to stay away from soft drinks . The best thing you can do is stay away from overly processed foods , and fast food. They are full of empty calories and will just leave you hungry in the end. My doc also recomended switching to whole grain bread and pasta.
Just remember you are pregnant, and to forgive yourself if you have a crazy craving. I ate like a pig this weekend, but am trying to get myself back on track. Good luck!

When you get cravings for fatty unhealthy foods, ignore them. Usually by looking at your body you can tell what is and is not fat. Baby bulges are harder and firmer than fat bulges. If you see a lot of fat building up, start cutting down on the food.

First things first: you do need to gain some weight. 20 pounds is normal and healthy, so don’t stress too much. Too little weight gain is unhealthy for your baby, and for you.
Now, you can control your weight gain. Stay away from junk foods and load up on lots of fruit and veggies, lean meats, and complex carbs (whole grain breads and pastas). Don’t be afraid to exercise, either.
Lastly, do you plan to breastfeed? Breastfeeding does wonders for weight loss, and this is the main reason that you gain weight in the first place. A breastfeeding woman burns up to an extra 500 calories a day, which is why your body stores fat during pregnancy. I gained 40 pounds while pregnant and lost 20 within the first month after my daughter was born.
Good luck!

You know they say eating for 2 is only a myth! My dr. said just pretty much act like I am dieting (no sweets or junk food)!! Also, stay active!! If you have a gym membership, as long as its okay with your dr, continue to go!!! If not take walks every day!! Dont be afraid of the scale! Good Luck

remember- you’re not ACTUALLY eating for two.
you should eat regularly as you normally would. try to keep to fruits, veggies and anything else that is healthy.. you’ll need an extra 100 calories at the beginning and 300 calories the last 6 months.
your stomach also shrinks during pregnancy so, don’t fill it with empty calories like junk food.
try to exercise even if it’s just walking or swimming.
drink lots of water and avoid soda and sugary drinks that can add hundreds of calories a day.
good luck.

Eat healthy, avoid the JUNK the packs on the pounds (like chips and ice cream), fill up on fruits and vegetables at dinner, and eat small meals 4-5 times a day instead of 3 big ones. Try not to snack before bed, if you have to, make it air popped pop corn with no butter…it’s filling with next to no calories. I eat mine with a little seasoning salt shaken on top for a little flavor. If you HAVE to have ice cream, have it early in the day so you have time to work it off. And afterwards, BREASTFEED. It’s WAYYY healthier for the baby, and it helps you burn up the baby fat. Good luck!!

Remember you don’t need to “eat for two” you only need several hundred calories above your normal weight maintaining amount. Also, eat “good (for you)” food and stay away from junk. Generally, it is said a mother should gain between 20-35 pounds but some women gain only 16 or 17 lbs and have healthy babies. Check out the article at the link/ source, it has lots of info…
Also, remember that regardless of how much you put on, breastfeeding will help take it off…That’s why your body puts the weight on to begin with,,,so you can feed your baby

i think there is some crazy number ou tthere in baby land that a pregant woman should onl consume 300 more calories a day during her pregnacy , crazy i know with cravings and supoorting anthour human life . I know with my second i just ate tons of vegtables and fruit instead of chips and all the other goodies i could have killed for ,(ok i wasnt great at the will power all the time ) it helped alot that my child hated for me to consume even a speck of my beloved chocolate but i CRAVED ice cream like a mad woman > so my deal was no bad snacks during the day and i kept them all out of the house . and i could eat ice cream after dinner . sometimes a bowl was fine some times more but i didnt feel gulity because i was packing my day with veggies ( have i touched a carrot since not really ) but than the min she was born hershey kisses found their way back into my life . With a stroke of luck and alot of restrnght i only gained about 10 lbs , insane i know but i also think it had tons to do with the constant puking i did for 5 months with morning sickness. Use common sense , moderate , excersise abit ( which i am sure you run maratons around the house with the first . besides you might just be to busy this time around with baby number 1 that you wont have time to get “larger” with baby number two. but than again all those muscles will strech faster because they were already laxed . oh the irony . Good luck and congrats on your children . I might not have been a help , but good luck

I am currently 32 weeks and 2 days with my first and I gained a lot of weight early on in this pregnancy as I gave up smoking cold turkey. Anyway, since about 22 weeks I have controlled my calories (max of 2000 per day) and been walking at least 5 days a week. I have managed to only put on 2 kgs in the last 10 weeks and my OB is very happy with that. Also, do allow yourself one small treat a week, like a bowl of icecream or a bowl of hot chips so it doesn’t feel like you’re missing out. My belly is still growing at an alarming rate.
Goodluck and congrats.
